Car dies when not accelerating?

My 1990 Chevy Lumina usually starts right up, but half the time it dies immediately after and I have to keep revving it to keep it going. It does this on the street too, every time I stop it dies unless I'm revving it. It only does this sometimes, like every other day. What would cause it and how much does it cost to fix?
